Family members can play an important role in their loved one’s recovery. This includes providing essential support both during and after their time in treatment. One way we support this effort is through family therapy.
Family therapy sessions allow family members to process how they have been affected by their loved one’s struggles. Family therapy can also help resolve conflicts or heal rifts among participants, so that they can function as a healthier unit moving forward. During family sessions, we may also discuss the progress that the client has been making in treatment, as well as any challenges or setbacks they have encountered.
The specific types of updates family members receive will depend on what is best for the individual who is receiving treatment. This and other decisions will be made by the treatment team, the individual who is receiving care, and the family members that the client has authorized to take part in family therapy sessions and receive update on their progress.
