Tampa Drug Rehab Programs
Every person struggling with addiction has different needs and different goals for recovery. For that reason, effective treatment requires a flexible approach that offers multiple levels of care.
At Tampa Bay Recovery Center, our Tampa Drug Rehab programs are designed to provide structured support at every stage of recovery. Individuals can transition through different levels of care depending on their progress and clinical needs.
Programs may include:
- Medical Detox Coordination: Many individuals entering treatment first require medical detox to safely manage withdrawal symptoms. Detox programs provide medical supervision and support while the body adjusts to the absence of drugs.
- Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP): PHP offers structured treatment during the day while allowing individuals to return home or to supportive housing in the evening. This level of care includes therapy, counseling, and recovery education.
- Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP): Intensive outpatient treatment allows individuals to participate in therapy while maintaining work, school, or family responsibilities. Clients attend several therapy sessions per week and continue developing recovery skills.
- Outpatient Treatment: Outpatient care provides ongoing therapeutic support as individuals transition toward independent living and long-term recovery.
This continuum of care ensures that individuals in Tampa Drug Rehab receive the right level of support as they move through the recovery process.
Medication-Assisted Treatment for Drug Addiction
For many individuals, therapy and peer support alone are not sufficient to manage the physical pull of addiction — particularly for opioid and alcohol use disorders.Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with evidence-based therapy to reduce cravings, ease withdrawal symptoms, and support long-term sobriety.
At Tampa Bay Recovery Center, MAT is integrated into our drug rehab programs across all levels of care — from detox through IOP — and is always paired with individual therapy, group counseling, and relapse prevention planning.
Medication is never used in isolation; it is one component of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.
Sublocade — A monthly injectable form of buprenorphine used to treat opioid use disorder. Sublocade provides consistent medication levels without the need for daily dosing, reducing the risk of misuse and improving treatment adherence.
Vivitrol — A monthly injectable form of naltrexone used to treat both opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. Vivitrol blocks the euphoric effects of opioids and alcohol, reducing the reward response that drives cravings.
Naltrexone — Available as a daily oral tablet, naltrexone works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain and is used to treat both opioid and alcohol use disorders. It is non-addictive and does not produce a high.
Types of Substances We Help Treat
Addiction can involve many different substances, each with unique effects on the brain and body. Tampa Bay Recovery Center provides treatment for a wide range of substance use disorders through our Tampa Drug Rehab programs.
Opioids
Opioids include substances such as heroin, fentanyl, Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, and prescription pain medications. These drugs can quickly lead to physical dependence and severe withdrawal symptoms, making professional treatment essential.
Cocaine
Cocaine is a powerful stimulant that increases energy, alertness, and confidence. Long-term use can lead to heart problems, anxiety, paranoia, and severe psychological dependence.
Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. Chronic use can cause serious health complications including memory loss, dental issues, and emotional instability.
Prescription Medications
Prescription drugs such as benzodiazepines, stimulants, adderall, and certain pain medications are commonly misused. When taken outside of medical supervision, these medications can lead to dependence and addiction.
Marijuana
While often perceived as less harmful, marijuana can still lead to dependence for some individuals, particularly when used heavily over long periods of time.
Our clinical team develops personalized treatment plans based on the specific substances involved and the individual needs of each client.

Understanding Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is a complex medical condition that affects both the brain and behavior. Repeated substance use changes how the brain processes reward, motivation, and stress, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to stop using drugs even when they recognize the negative consequences.
Over time, drugs alter the brain’s communication systems and disrupt areas responsible for decision-making, impulse control, and emotional regulation. These changes often lead to compulsive drug use, intense cravings, and withdrawal symptoms when substances are no longer present.
Because addiction affects brain function, recovery often requires professional treatment that addresses both the biological and psychological components of substance use.
Understanding Substance Use Disorder (SUD)
Substance use disorder (SUD) is the clinical diagnosis used to describe problematic patterns of substance use that lead to significant impairment or distress. It exists on a spectrum ranging from mild to severe and can involve a wide range of substances.
Individuals with substance use disorder may find themselves unable to control how much they use, despite wanting to stop. As the disorder progresses, drug use may begin to interfere with relationships, work responsibilities, financial stability, and overall health.
Treatment programs such as Tampa Drug Rehab focus on helping individuals understand how addiction develops, identify the triggers that contribute to substance use, and learn healthier coping strategies that support long-term recovery.
Drug Addiction in Tampa and Pinellas County
Substance use disorder is a serious public health issue throughout Florida, and the Tampa Bay region is not immune. According to the Florida Department of Health, Pinellas County consistently records among the highest rates of drug-related emergency department visits and overdose deaths in the state.
Opioids — including illicit fentanyl, heroin, and prescription pain medications — remain the leading driver of overdose fatalities in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Cocaine and methamphetamine-involved deaths have also increased significantly in recent years, reflecting broader national trends in polysubstance use.
Across Florida, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) estimates that hundreds of thousands of adults meet the criteria for a substance use disorder in any given year — yet the majority do not receive treatment. Barriers including stigma, cost concerns, and uncertainty about what treatment involves prevent many people from seeking help.
Tampa Bay Recovery Center exists to lower those barriers. Our admissions team is available 24 hours a day, insurance verification is free, and our clinical staff will help you understand every step of the process before you commit to anything. Call 813-733-8774 or verify your insurance online to get started.
Signs and Symptoms of Drug Addiction
Recognizing the signs of addiction can help individuals seek treatment before the condition worsens. While symptoms vary depending on the substance used, certain patterns commonly indicate the presence of drug addiction.
Common signs may include:
- Strong cravings or urges to use drugs
- Difficulty stopping or controlling substance use
- Increased tolerance requiring larger amounts of drugs
- Withdrawal symptoms when not using
- Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home
- Changes in mood, behavior, or sleep patterns
- Financial or legal problems related to substance use
- Continuing to use drugs despite negative consequences
When these patterns begin affecting daily life, seeking support through Tampa Drug Rehab can provide the structure and guidance needed to begin recovery.
What To Expect At Our Drug Rehab in Tampa
Beginning treatment can feel overwhelming, especially for individuals who have never participated in a rehabilitation program before. At Tampa Bay Recovery Center, the goal is to create a supportive environment where clients feel comfortable focusing on their recovery.
The treatment process often begins with a comprehensive assessment. This evaluation helps the clinical team understand each individual’s substance use history, mental health needs, and recovery goals.
From there, a personalized treatment plan is developed that may include individual therapy, group counseling, relapse prevention education, and psychiatric support.
Throughout treatment, individuals participate in structured therapy sessions that help them develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen emotional regulation, and build a foundation for long-term sobriety.

The Long-Term Effects of Drug Addiction
Chronic drug use can have significant consequences for both physical and mental health. Over time, substance use may damage vital organs, disrupt brain function, and increase the risk of serious medical conditions.
Long-term effects of addiction may include:
- Heart disease and cardiovascular problems
- Liver damage and kidney complications
- Memory impairment and cognitive decline
- Anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
- Increased risk of infectious diseases
- Financial instability and relationship challenges
Seeking professional treatment through Tampa Drug Rehab can help individuals begin reversing some of these effects while preventing further harm.

How Effective Is Treatment?
Addiction treatment can be highly effective when individuals receive the appropriate level of care and ongoing support. Research consistently shows that structured treatment programs improve recovery outcomes and reduce the risk of relapse.
Success in recovery often depends on several factors, including participation in therapy, support from family and peers, and continued engagement in recovery resources after treatment.
Programs like Tampa Drug Rehab are designed to provide not only immediate treatment but also the skills and support systems needed for long-term recovery.
Why Tampa Bay Recovery Center for Drug Rehab in Tampa?
Choosing the right treatment center is one of the most important decisions a person — or their family — can make.
At Tampa Bay Recovery Center, we have spent the years since our founding in 2022 building a program grounded in clinical excellence, evidence-based care, and genuine compassion for every person who walks through our doors.
Joint Commission Accredited: Tampa Bay Recovery Center holds accreditation from The Joint Commission, one of the most rigorous independent standards bodies in behavioral healthcare. Accreditation reflects our ongoing commitment to clinical quality, safety, and continuous improvement — and signals to clients and families that TBRC meets nationally recognized standards for addiction treatment.
Full Continuum of Care: We offer every level of outpatient addiction treatment — from medically coordinated detox through PHP, IOP, standard outpatient, and sober living — so clients never have to restart their recovery at a new facility when they step down in care. Continuity of treatment relationships and clinical records meaningfully improves outcomes.
Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment: The majority of individuals entering drug rehab are also managing at least one co-occurring mental health condition. Our clinical team is trained to assess and treat both simultaneously — not sequentially — because treating addiction without addressing underlying mental health rarely produces lasting results. Learn more about our dual diagnosis program.
Medication-Assisted Treatment: Available at all levels of care. For individuals who benefit from medication support, our MAT program integrates FDA-approved medications — including Sublocade, Vivitrol, and Naltrexone — into treatment at every level of care, managed by our medical director and nurse practitioner.
Small Group Sizes and Individualized Attention: Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all process. Our program is intentionally designed to keep group sizes small so that each client receives meaningful individual attention from their clinical team — not a generic curriculum delivered to a crowded room.
Located in St. Petersburg, Serving The Greater Tampa Bay Area: Our facility at 6501 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg is accessible to residents throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, and we welcome clients traveling from across Florida.
The Path Through Drug Rehab at Tampa Bay Recovery Center
Recovery from drug addiction rarely follows a straight line, and effective treatment accounts for that reality. At Tampa Bay Recovery Center, our programs are designed as a connected continuum — not a series of disconnected steps so that each level of care builds on the last and no client is left without a clear next step.
Here is what the treatment journey typically looks like:
Medical Detox — For individuals with significant physical dependence, detox is the necessary first step. Our team coordinates medically supervised detox to manage withdrawal safely and stabilize clients before they transition into structured treatment.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) — PHP provides six hours of structured clinical programming per day, five to six days per week. It is the highest level of outpatient care and is designed for individuals who need intensive support in early recovery without an overnight residential stay.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) — IOP runs three and a half hours per day and allows clients to maintain work, school, and family responsibilities while continuing structured treatment. Most clients transition into IOP after completing PHP.
Outpatient Rehab — Standard outpatient therapy provides ongoing clinical support as clients build independence in their recovery. Sessions are less frequent but maintain the therapeutic relationship and accountability that early recovery requires.
Sober Living — For clients who want added structure and peer accountability outside of clinical hours, our sober living homes are located less than a half mile from our clinical campus. Sober living provides a substance-free environment with house rules, regular drug testing, and a built-in recovery community.
Long-Term Rehab — Some individuals benefit from an extended treatment timeline. Long-term rehab is available for clients with complex histories, multiple relapses, or limited external support systems.
Your clinical team will work with you from the first day of treatment to plan each transition before it happens — so you always know what comes next and why.

How long does drug rehab last?
The length of drug rehab depends on the substances involved, the severity of dependence, and individual treatment needs. Detox typically lasts five to ten days. PHP programs generally run 30 days. IOP programs typically last 30 to 90 days. Many individuals move through multiple levels of care over a period of several months. Research consistently shows that longer engagement in treatment is associated with better long-term outcomes — your clinical team will help you determine the right timeline based on your progress.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient drug rehab?
Inpatient drug rehab requires clients to live at the treatment facility around the clock and is typically used for individuals who need the highest level of medical supervision or who lack a stable home environment. Outpatient drug rehab — which includes PHP, IOP, and standard outpatient — provides structured clinical programming during the day while clients live at home or in sober living. Tampa Bay Recovery Center offers a full range of outpatient levels of care.
Can I keep my job while in drug rehab?
It depends on the level of care. PHP runs Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, which makes maintaining full-time employment difficult. IOP runs from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, leaving afternoons and evenings free — many IOP clients successfully maintain part-time or flexible work schedules. Standard outpatient therapy involves one to two sessions per week and is generally compatible with full-time employment. If maintaining employment during treatment is a priority, our admissions team can help you identify the right level of care.
Does insurance cover drug rehab in Florida?
Yes — most major insurance plans cover drug rehab as a medically necessary service. Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), insurers are required to cover substance use disorder treatment on par with other medical conditions. Tampa Bay Recovery Center is in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Verify your insurance online or call 813-733-8774 to speak with our admissions team.
Do I need to detox before starting drug rehab?
Not always. Whether detox is needed depends on the substance and the severity of physical dependence. Individuals with significant dependence on opioids, alcohol, or benzodiazepines typically require medically supervised detox before entering PHP or IOP. For other substances — such as cocaine, stimulants, or marijuana — detox is less commonly required. Our admissions team will assess your situation during intake and help determine the right starting point.
What therapies are used in drug rehab at TBRC?
Our drug rehab programs use a combination of evidence-based therapies tailored to each client’s needs. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, Brainspotting, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, trauma-informed care, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate.
What if I have a co-occurring mental health condition?
Tampa Bay Recovery Center takes a dual diagnosis approach — meaning we assess and treat co-occurring mental health conditions alongside substance use disorder. If you are managing depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or another mental health condition in addition to drug addiction, our clinical team will incorporate appropriate mental health treatment into your care plan from the start. Learn more about dual diagnosis treatment at TBRC.
