TRICARE offers several plan types, and the one you have affects how you access care and what you pay.

• TRICARE Prime is available to active duty and retired service members, Reserve members, and their families. Prime members have a primary care manager who acts as their main point of contact, and active duty members pay nothing out of pocket. 
• TRICARE Select is a self-managed PPO plan available in the United States for those who are not on active duty, offering more flexibility to choose providers with some cost-sharing. 
• TRICARE For Life is available to members who qualify for Medicare, providing secondary coverage that wraps around Medicare benefits.

Authorization & Referrals

Emergency services, including detoxification and stabilization, do not require prior authorization. However, you will need approval for continued treatment beyond the emergency phase.
